Let’s get one thing straight… I love Sigourney Weaver. She’s such a phenomenal force to be reckoned with and a true heroine on the silver screen. Not only is she the Queen of Sci-Fi and Paranormal Film Genre but she has fun and comedic side to her. Sigourney was born in Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949 in Manhattan, New York. Her early life was spent growing up in show-business with parents in the entertainment industry – her mom and was an actress and her father was a studio exec. So of course little Susan Alexandra would grow up to be an actress and later changed her name after reading The Great Gatsby (or so sources say).

Sigourney’s acting career took off when she landed her first lead role in Ridley Scott’s – Alien film in 1979 when the actress was just turning 30. Prior to Alien she dabbled in theater acting and taking small roles on television shows and what not. She then went on taking on more and more sci-fi roles and continued as the main character and heroine of the Alien franchise.

Her most notable roles have been in Ghostbusters and Avatar. She’s isn’t afraid to own her title as the Sci-Fi Queen and prides herself on taking any movie she feels like even though she’s been known to joke that she tends to get the roles that Meryl Streep doesn’t want. Either way she rocks every character I’ve seen her act thus far.

One thing that I really admire about Sigourney is that she is genuine, not only in her demeanor but also in her approach towards life. She really enjoys her fans and her work and she regularly speaks her mind. She once said, “In Hollywood, if you are a man and speak your mind openly, you’re considered a man in full. But, if you are a woman and do the same, you’re nothing but an annoying bitch.” This double standard isn’t just in Hollywood and she believes strongly in gender equality. I look up to her for being a strong presence for young girls and women alike because Alien was one of the first films I had seen with a strong female lead and I think that’s why I love it and her so much.

She has signed on for several Avatar films that will be releasing up until 2022 and she is dedicated to continuing her acting career for many more years to come. Although she is starting to show her age, Sigourney is still a stunning Amazonian woman standing at 5’11” but tips over 6’ in her stiletto pumps. She’s like a fine wine, only getting better with age.

I can’t wait until next August when she returns to her role as Ellen Ripley in the upcoming Alien: Covenant installment. Hopefully, someday I’ll be able to have an interview or just a sit-down conversation with her and pick her brain about all things Sci-Fi.  Until then, I’ll just quietly worship her from afar.
